A peek at my fantasy office. No, really! There's a delightful misconception in the literary world, a near-legendary tale that authors are fueled purely by coffee—cup after cup of that intoxicating brew, our muse for every page turned and every tale spun. But here's a little secret from my corner of the fantasy realm: while most authors are downing espressos and lattes, I'm sipping on apple cider. Yes, you read that right. Sparkling apple juice is my potion of choice, the golden elixir that fuels my tales of enchanting worlds and passionate shifters.

My next character art segment is on the charming Banehound Alpha, Markus. If you missed the last entry it was on the chaotic Skoll Darkstorm AKa the Dark Beast. This particular male is rather fascinating as he first started out to be solely a henchman in my first novel - Feral Hearts.

Is he or is he not an Alpha?
One of the points a few readers have picked up on is that Markus's position as leader of the Banehound Clan is rather questionable. For one, he came into the role by chance. Fang, is the true Alpha of the clan. However, Fang is infected with a chaotic madness which eventually leads to Markus discovering some interesting revelations that change his life.
And yes, I'm not putting down detailed spoilers in the case a new reader happens to come across this entry by accident. Moving forward ---
Second, I established early on that the Alpha and Luna of the clans are chosen either at birth or at a very young age. What does this mean exactly for a male warrior to be suddenly given the status of a clan lord and with it the prestigious title of 'Alpha' as an adult?
Well now, it brings a slew of options to someone that thought the impossible wasn't possible.

The Darkstorm Sibling Rivalry
Adopted as a young wolf-pup, Markus has always felt like an outcast. Not only did he not display the same blessings/powers as the other Fenrir pups but he also had a different colored pelt. The majority of the Fenrir Varul have dark gray, mottled white/gray, and tan pelts. While he, had a pelt of rust red.
It truly brought a sense of loneliness and also drove him to continually prove himself to others. Which brought out a bout of awful behavior such as bullying those weaker or uniquely different. A bit hypocritical if you think about it.
Filtiarn became his rival for an altogether different reason. Not out of hate, or rejection but out of jealousy. There was a young she-wolf in both their lives that inadvertently (she's completely unaware even to this day) caused an avalanche of competition that has yet to subside.
Does he love her or is he simply infatuated with the idea? I aim to explore this a great deal more in the third novel, Wild Hearts.
